Urgent Action Against Dengue Outbreak in Mauritius

WHO Experts Join Forces to Combat Vector Spread

The World Health Organization (WHO) has stepped up its support to Mauritius in the fight against the ongoing dengue outbreak. Three WHO experts have been deployed to the island nation to assist local health authorities in tackling the surge in dengue cases that has reached alarming levels, particularly in the capital, Port-Louis, and surrounding areas.

Island-Wide Impact

The outbreak has had a significant impact on communities across Mauritius, with the dengue virus transmitted by day-active Aedes mosquitoes. Symptoms typically include fever, rash, and joint pain. In severe cases, dengue can be life-threatening.

Health authorities have confirmed 265 cases of dengue fever in Mauritius, raising concerns about the potential for further spread. The Ministry of Health is actively monitoring the outbreak and has implemented a range of measures to control the vector and prevent further infections.
